Arrival in Canada

By Air:
Your Port of Entry will probably be Montreal, which is served by one airport: Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.

Shuttle Service and International Welcome Days Program:
At the beginning of each fall and winter semester the International Students Office offers a Shuttle Service from Montreal to Bishop's. Students are picked up at the HI Montreal Youth Hostel located downtown on Mackay St and driven to Bishop's where assistance to move into the halls of residence is provided.

Each fall semester, a two day International Welcome Days Program, which is designed to help ease the transition to Bishop's University and Canada is delivered by the International Students Office. We help introduce students to the university community, and surrounding area. A number of Canadian students are always on hand to assist and offer a student perspective on life at Bishop's. A Quebec Culture and Society Information Session, a Campus Tours, an Employment Information Session, a visit to a local museum and an outdoor BBQ are just a few activities organized.

Note that, in order to participate, students are required to pre-register for both the Shuttle Service and International Welcome Days Program. Information including dates, cost, etc. is sent out with the student's acceptance package.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport is 19 kilometers from downtown and also served by La Québécoise. The fare is $14.00 and buses leave every 20 minutes from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., and every 30 minutes from 11:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. On week-ends the buses run every 30 minutes from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m.

The La Québécoise bus will bring you to the Voyageur/Auger Bus Terminal ("Terminus Centrale") at the Berri de Montigny/UQAM subway (Metro) station in downtown Montreal, where you can take a Limocar bus for Sherbrooke (Student fare is $24.50 tax included). Depending on the hour you arrive, some evening buses continue from Sherbrooke to the campus; otherwise we suggest that you take a taxi from Sherbrooke with all your luggage (approximately $12.00) to your residence or apartment.

There is also a city bus (Bus Number 2) that can take you to the campus. The bus ticket costs $2.85 and you have to give the exact change to the bus driver. The last bus leaves the Sherbrooke bus station at 11:30 pm.

By Train or Bus:
If you travel to Montreal by bus, you will arrive at the "Terminus Centrale", where you will take a bus for Sherbrooke (see above). By train, the downtown station in Montreal is called "Gare Centrale"; from there you can take a taxi, or the subway (METRO) to the "Berri/UQAM" stop, where the "Terminus Centrale" bus station is located.
