Immigration procedures

To study in Quebec for two semesters (Fall & Winter) on Exchange you will need two documents:

  1. The provincial Ministry of Cultural Communities and Immigration of Québec (M.C.C.I.) will issue the Certificate of Acceptance/Certificat d'acceptation (C.A.Q.).
  2. The federal Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada will provide the Study Permit/Permis de séjour.

You will need both of these to study at Bishop's University.

Apply for your C.A.Q. as soon as you receive your Letter of Admission and if possible, use the on-line application form. The application process for both documents can take several weeks and possibly a few months to obtain.

Exemption: If you are coming for one semester only (Fall or Winter), and are sure that you will not extend your stay to a second semester (Fall and Winter), or apply to work part-time on campus during your Exchange (jobs are very limited however), you do not need a C.A.Q. or Study Permit, for a six month stay in Canada.

Browse the Immigration Procedures section for more information.

Health Insurance

All International and exchange students are required to have health coverage while studying full time in Quebec and for the full duration of their stay.
