Hallo, ich bin die Karen und im Sommer 2005 habe ich am Werkstudentenprogramm teilgenommen. Es hat mir gut gefallen. Für die Leute, die nie in einem anderen Land gewesen sind oder die nicht genau wissen, wie sie einen Sommerjob finden können, ist dieses Programm wunderbar. Mit nur 25$ für die Einschreibung und 150$ für die administrativen Kosten kriegt ihr Visum, Versicherung, 3 Tage Orientierung (Verpflegung & Unterkunft inklusive). Ihr müsst eure Flugtickets extra bezahlen, aber die Organisatoren bestellen sie für euch. Nicht schlecht, oder?
Während dieser 3 Tage Orientierung gibt es Leute, die die politische Situation und das Arbeitssystem erklären - was ihr von eurem Arbeitgeber erwarten (oder nicht) sollt - das Bus- und Zugsystem - wie ihr Geld sparen könnt - und viele andere wichtige Sachen, die ihr wissen müsst.
Es ist ein 3 Monate Programm und ihr könnt wählen, ob ihr die ganze Zeit arbeiten wollt oder nur 2 Monate und den letzten Monat reisen wollt. Ihr habt viele Möglichkeiten und es gibt immer Leute, die euch helfen können.
Also, im Sommer 2005 habe ich als Animateurin bei einem Ferienlager gearbeitet. Ich war auf der Insel Rügen an der Ostsee, ganz im Norden. Ich musste Aktivitäten, wie Radtouren, Beach Volleyball, Nordic Walking, Strandbilder, Verrücktes Theater, Strandduell und Nachtwanderungen für Kinder, Erwachsene oder die ganze Familie animieren. Es machte mir viel Spaß und ich hatte die Gelegenheit nette Leute kennen zu lernen und mein Deutsch zu verbessern. Ich habe so 2 Monate in einem Teil Deutschlands gewohnt, den ich sonst wahrscheinlich nie in meinem Leben entdeckt hätte. Ich habe mit einem internationalen Team gearbeitet. Ich kann nur sagen, dass die Zeit, die ich auf Rügen verbracht habe, ausgezeichnet war.
Andere Teilnehmer dieses Programms haben in Biergärten, Restaurants, Cafés oder Hotels gearbeitet. Ihr könnt irgendwo in Deutschland einen Job bekommen. Ihr habt die Chance schöne Orte zu entdecken, nette Leute kennen zu lernen, eine Joberfahrung im Ausland zu kriegen und eine Lebenserfahrung gleich dazu!
Ich wünsche euch an diesem Werkstudentenprogramm teilzunehmen, denn es ist eine wertvolle und spannende Erfahrung.

Hi, my name is Karen and during the summer of 2005, I took part in the "Werkstudentenprogramm". I enjoyed it very much, because it is a great opportunity to discover a country. People who have never experienced working abroad or even traveling in another country, this is the program for you! It offers you the support you need, informing you on the rules and regulations of Germany, giving you tricks to save money on trains: all that in a three-day orientation session in Bonn, where your food and lodging is included. Guest speakers come to answer your questions. Plus, this program finds the job for you. The costs are not very high considering what they do for you: 25$ for registration and 150$ for administration fees. They even reserve the plane ticket for you.
This is a 3-month program and you have the possibility of choosing whether you want to work the whole time or just 2 months - this is the minimum work time required. You mostly get jobs in hotels, restaurants, biergartens, but there are also jobs in landscaping, agriculture and industries. You can get a job anywhere in Germany. It is a good opportunity to discover the country, the culture and the people.
So, in the summer of 2005 I worked on the island of Rügen, in Northern Germany. I was an animator in a family camp. The families were staying for 1, 2 or 3 weeks and we had to organize activities for them, mostly outside. Those activities were biking tours, beach volleyball, beach soccer, crafts, games for kids, Nordic walking, bond fire, etc. It was great because I had the chance to discover a part of Germany that I probably never would have visited, talked to people from different parts of Germany. My co-workers were from different parts of the world, so I learned about different cultures as well. But most of all, my German improved a lot because I had no choice of speaking it and the people helped me. In short, the time I spent on Rügen was fantastic and unforgettable.
I hope that you will take part in this wonderful experience. You won't regret it. It gives you an overseas work experience, a life experience and the knowledge of another way of doing things, plus you get the chance to meet incredible people.
