(Class of 2004; Major Modern Languages with concentrations in German Studies and Hispanic Studies)
After my B.A., I participated in the Language Assistant Programme from Quebec’s Ministère de l'Éducation, des Loisirs et du Sport; I taught French and English for a year in Germany which, aside from giving me work experience, helped me better my skills in German. I found it hard at times however; the school I was working for wasn’t the most organized. Nonetheless, I was given the opportunity to design my own conversation course in English and was also able to give seminars on Canadian history … When I came back, I worked for a year in the French immersion programme at an elementary school. I am now studying again, completing a course in artistic make-up, something I really enjoy and that allows me to use a more creative aspect of my personality.
Even if I’m not working with languages at the moment, I don’t regret having studied languages; thanks to my B.A., I was able to discover foreign countries, live in Germany for a year and spend three great years at Bishop’s!
