Reigen

La Ronde is the title usually given to Arthur Schnitzler’s 1897 play Reigen. It was not performed until 1921, when it was immediately shut down and deemed an obscene work. The play takes place in Vienna in the 1890’s and consists of ten scenes depicting sexual encounters between pairs of people. There are ten characters, each playing in two adjacent scenes (counting the last as adjacent to the first). The play starts with the whore and the soldier, followed by the soldier and the maid, and so on in this fashion until making full circle in the last scene you are about to see with the whore waking up with the count in her modest apartment.
La Ronde est le titre français de la pièce Reigen, écrite par Arthur Schnitzler en 1897. Elle ne fut mise en scène qu’en 1921, date où elle fut interdite et déclarée matériel obscène. La pièce se passe à Vienne dans les années 1890 et consiste en dix scènes décrivant des rencontres de nature sexuelle entre deux personnages. Il y a en tout dix personnages, chacun jouant dans deux scènes consécutives (la dernière scène découlant sur la première). La pièce présente d’abord la prostituée et le soldat, puis, dans la scène suivante, le soldat et la bonne et ainsi de suite jusqu’à boucler la boucle dans la dernière scène que vous allez voir avec la prostituée se réveillant et trouvant le comte à ses côtés.
