(Class of 2001; Major Modern Languages with concentrations in German Studies and Hispanic Studies/Minor in English Language Studies)
After my B.A. in Modern Languages, I completed another B.A., this time in Translation. I have been working as a translator for almost three years now. I started at Great-West, the insurance company, and am now working for a small translation firm.
Through my B.A. at Bishop’s, I acquired enough knowledge and fluency in English to help me better achieve the goals I had set for myself for my second B.A. Honestly, I don’t think I would be as competent in my field today if I hadn’t previously completed my B.A. in Modern Languages. Moreover, I decided to take the Spanish concentration in my Translation degree and I was able to see how well ahead of the other students I was: not only was I able to use my language skills in Spanish right away, but my broad knowledge of Hispanic culture gave me a big advantage over others!
