Research - Dr. Jean Levasseur

Dr. Jean Levasseur
Department of Études Françaises et Québécoises

Dr. Levasseur has recently undertaken, with Dr. Rémi Ferland from Laval University, the preparation of a dictionary on all matters relating to the printed medium in Quebec City, from 1763 until the end of the nineteenth century. A long-term and mammoth enterprise, this dictionary will examine all aspects of book production: paper makers, typesetters, printers, engravers, book binders, illustrators, auctioneers, librarians, merchants and, of course, publishers. He continues his research on poet, songwriter, novelist and journalist Rémi Tremblay, a fascinating personality who wrote two novels, numerous plays, poems and songs, published hundreds of articles and contributed to all the important periodicals and magazines of Quebec and New England in the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, finding time to make two trips around the world. Dr. Levasseur is also interested in the theories relating to the practice of adventure, spy and science-fiction novels.
