March 2013
Dear Students,
Welcome back from reading week -- only a few weeks left before the end of term, and it promises to be a whirlwind of activity before the examination period begins. Please take note of the following:
1. Deadlines and Important Dates
The exam schedule has been posted on this page:
http://www.ubishops.ca/TimeTable/exam/ENGCRSE.htm
2. Events
- The term party is being scheduled for Thursday, March 28. The first phase, hosted by the Department of English, will begin at 5.30 pm in Foreman Art Gallery. At 7.30 pm, the second phase will begin. Hosted by EngLit, this part of the party will take place at TIERRA DEL FUEGO (note change!). You need to get your hand stamped by President of EngLit at the first stage of the party at the Foreman in order to get your free drink at Tierra Del Fuego. The theme of the party is The Great Gatsby (1920s costumes).
- STEP has two remaining talks scheduled, the first on Friday, March 15 at 1pm. Dr. Steven Cole (Sociology) will speak about “Academic Integrity and Plagiarism.” The other talk is scheduled for Friday, April 5 at 1pm. There will be a round table addressing “How to study for exams.”
- Morris House Reading Series has one remaining event scheduled this term: Douglas Gibson will talk about his experience as a high-profile publisher, who worked with authors as famous as Alice Munro and Margaret Atwood. Note the change in date: he will speak *before* the Department of English party, on March 28, between 4.30 and 5.30 pm in Centennial Theatre.
- QUEUC is coming around the corner -- between the 15th and 17th of March. Come out and hear your peers give conference papers!
- On March 18, 2013, Bishop's University is proud to host award-winning director Nancy Schwartzman at 3PM in the Gait, as a part of the Gender Equity Centre's No means KNOW campaign (co-coordinated by Zoe Costanzo and Nicole Rutberg). Don't miss it!
3. Writing Centre
- Consider booking with the Writing Centre to get some extra help for your papers. The Centre offers free appointments for students who would like help with their written assignments, and free Workshops to help students improve their written work. For further information, contact the Coordinator, Writing Centre, Divinity House. Tel: 819-822-9600, ext. 2400.
My best wishes for the end of term and your final exams,
Linda Morra,
