Description
STEP (Students Seeking to Excel Program) was founded in 2010 in order to deliver integrative learning opportunities for students outside the classroom. Faculty members (from departments as diverse as English, Psychology, History, and Classics) and staff (from student services, the library, residence life programs) volunteer their time to deliver seminars – on topics such as effective writing, academic integrity, pursuing graduate studies, and exam preparation – in order to extend learning outside the classroom and support students’ success. In our second year, STEP 2011-2012 averaged 60-70 students per session. Our third year promises to be even more successful!
Objectives
- To ensure our students have the necessary skills to successfully transition students into a university environment
- To help students develop the necessary skills to thrive in their chosen undergraduate program
- To foster confidence and provide them with a competitive edge when they leave BU for grad school and/or when they enter the job market
