Research - Dr. Jonathan Rittenhouse

Dr. Jonathan Rittenhouse
Department of Drama

In line with the tenor of his earlier studies on Festival Lennoxville, the Brae Manor Theatre, the career of theatre critic Herbert Whittaker, cultural activities in Montreal between the wars, and the cultural history of various theatre spaces in Montreal and the Eastern Townships, Dr. Rittenhouse is currently working on a comprehensive project looking at the evolution of English-language theatre in Montreal in the twentieth century. To this end, he is constructing an inventory that will provide information on the repertory performed, the producers and directors, the performance places, and the audiences reached. Data will be collected from advertisements, reviews, and articles published in Montreal newspapers. Complementary data will also be gathered through research in private and public archival fonds. A completed database will be made available to researchers. The research resulting in the database will also serve as the primary source for articles on English-language theatre in Quebec.

Dr. Rittenhouse is a member of a team of researchers from various Québec universities.
