"Quebec, Theatre in English": This was commissioned work for The Oxford Companion to Canadian Theatre (1989) that required a complete synthesis of existing research on English-language theatre in Quebec. The Companion is the primary resource book for Canadian theatre research.

"Our Granada: The Granada Theatre, Wellington Street, Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, America, the World and Me" (1997): This article was a theoretically challenging and painstakingly researched analysis of one entertainment space, the Granada Theatre of Sherbrooke. The article was nominated for and awarded the best article of the year prize of the Association for Canadian Theatre Research.

Setting the Stage Montreal Theatre 1920-1949 (1999): Dr. Rittenhouse's work on this historical memoir by Herbert Whittaker was commissioned by McGill-Queen's Press. As the leading expert on English-language theatre in Quebec and the career of the memoirist, he was asked to edit the memoir and provide a full scholarly apparatus. The book is the most extensive publication concerning English-language theatre in Quebec yet produced.

Journal of Eastern Townships Studies/ Revue d'études des Cantons de l'Est (1992-2000): As editor through eighteen issues of this peer-reviewed journal, Dr. Rittenhouse was responsible for promoting, evaluating and publishing research related to the Eastern Townships. This bilingual journal is the only one devoted to this region of Quebec and it has published work representing many different disciplinary methodologies (sociology, geography, social and cultural history, etc).

A Critical Edition of 1 Sir John Oldcastle (1984): Based on his doctoral dissertation of 1980, this book is the standard modern edition of this 16th century play. Published in the series The Renaissance Imagination under the general editorship of Stephen Orgel, the work is an example of editorial scholarship and theatre history.
