The Library
The John Bassett Memorial Library is located off of the Quad, at the heart of Bishop's University. With close to 500,000 items, including books, academic journals and a variety of other resources, it provides a wealth of knowledge for students to research papers with. There are also study space and seminar rooms for small groups to work together. Classics students have access to a good number of books and Journals, including the Biblical Archaeologist, the American Journal of Archaeology and a number of others. There are CD-ROMs available to enable students to look for specific articles easily and quickly. Students can also access books at other schools' libraries through an interlibrary loan. There are also student jobs available either at the desk or shelving.
Bishop's University Teaching Image Collections
The Bishop's University Teaching Image Collections are located at MacKinnon 125c and houses a digital database and DVDs along with more than 60,000 slides, worth more than a million dollars. Of this extensive collection, more than half of the slides pertain to Classical Studies. The slides, many of which were taken by professors of the school, are a teaching collection and are used frequently in the classroom setting. As well, the slides may be made available for student use in connection with seminars and presentations. The Teaching Image Collections also contains a collection of videos, many of which are related to the study of classics. Each year the Teaching Image Collections offers a student intern position in which a student may assist the curator of the library, Willa Montague, for up to ten hours per week. The Teaching Image Collections are an excellent resource for students of Classical Studies.
