Scholarship Information - List of Scholarships and Bursaries in Education

  1. P.H. & Eulah Reed Scowen Scholarship ($2,000) Fall
    - Awarded to a student entering the Bachelor of Education degree, whose full-time schooling has been interrupted for a minimum of four years, and who demonstrates financial need.
  2. Frances Crook Morrison Scholarship ($1,000) Fall
    - Awarded to a student in the Bachelor of Arts, Major in Educational Studies who has achieved a cumulative average of 80% or higher, plans to teach at the elementary school level, and shows commitment to the teaching of Mathematics.
  3. Holloway Award in memory of Howard V. Holloway ($1,000) Fall
    Awarded to a student in the School of Education with the following criteria: 1. high academic standing; 2. be able to demonstrate past or present leadership or character suitable to teaching, 3. be able to demonstrate financial need.
  4. School of Education - Internship Bursary ($500) Winter
    - Awarded to a student in the Bachelor of Education in good academic standing, with a summative grade of successful in previous practice teaching placements and who demonstrates financial need. Preference will be given to candidates who have the 13-week placement and other placements at a distance greater than 140 km from Bishop=s University.
  5. Carol and Michael Mooney Bursary Winter
    Preference will be given to final year Bachelor of Education students whose extended practicum is at a distance from the Bishop's University campus. Criteria of academic standing, distance, financial need and so on will be determined by the School of Education.

Prizes

  1. Alan W. Jones Memorial Prize ($100) B.Ed.
    - Awarded to the student with the highest academic standing in the final year of the Bachelor of Education.
  2. Charles McBurney Prize ($100) B.Ed.
    - Awarded for the highest proficiency in Practice Teaching at the Secondary Level.
  3. Provincial Association of Protestant Teacher's Prize ($100) B.Ed.
    - A prize given at the discretion of the Director of the School of Education to a student who has shown a genuine professional attitude in his/her final year of teacher-training.
  4. William. L. Shurtleff Prize for Practice Teaching ($100) B.Ed.
    - Awarded for highest proficiency in Practice Teaching at the Elementary Level.
  5. William L. Shurtleff Prize for Academic Achievement ($100)
    - Awarded to the graduating student attaining the highest academic standing in the B.A. Major in Educational Studies.
