English Language Summer School



About Bishop's

Program Objectives

  • The objectives of the programme are to enhance communication abilities, develop further comprehension, increase vocabulary and improve grammar skills while speaking only in English.
  • After completing the English Language placement test, you will be assigned to one of six levels of classes.
  • Our courses focus on comprehension, conversation, grammar and reading skills.
  • Every week, while working in teams, you will attend a workshop of your choice. Some examples of these include: , journalism, biology, history or debate.
  • Our programme is very demanding, but we are convinced that you will appreciate your experience.

Social and Cultural Activities

  • Our social and cultural activities will take place exclusively in English. Some of our excursions and visits to local tourist attractions include (North Hatley, Coaticook Gorge, Capelton Mines, Uplands Museum, etc) as well as short trips to destinations such as Ottawa);
  • Some activities include Karaoke, Talent show, international night and theme events;
  • You will also have the opportunity to participate in various sports (basketball, volleyball, soccer, etc);
  • As well, students will be required to participate in other mandatory activities in the evening and each week-end.

Program Fees

  • Non-bursary students (with proof of Quebec residency) : $2,700.00
  • Canadian Students (outside of Quebec) : $3,600.00
  • International Students : $6,000.00

These prices include the registration fee of $200.00 non-refundable, tuition fees, a double occupancy room in the university residence from May 27th until June 28th, as well as all meals during the five-week programme.

Fees are payable in full by April 26th, 2013.


Did you know?

  • The Explore English Language Summer Programme accepts students 18 years of age and older.
  • Our immersion programme is becoming more and more multicultural.
  • Students will attend classes from Monday to Friday mornings as well as Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. The workshops are Monday and Wednesday afternoons with the monitors. every Friday, the participants will visits some local tourist attractions.
  • Participants are required to reside in the University residences and all meals will be provided in the Dewhurst Dining Hall on campus.
  • All students will be granted free internet access during their five-week immersion.
  • Also, the participants will have access to the Sports and Recreation Center including: a double gymnasium, an exterior and an interior pool, tennis and squash courts, dance studio, a weight-training room as well as an interior jogging track.

The Council of Ministers of Education of Canada provides bursaries covering the cost of program fees, course materials, and room and board.

Admissions criteria:

  • You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (those studying in Canada on a student visa are not eligible);
  • You must have completed at least grade 11 (secondary 5 in Quebec) or be studying at the postsecondary level by the time the programme begins;
  • You must have been a full-time student for at least one semester during the current school year.
