"Furthering Education By Uniting Business Schools Around The World Through Shared Ideals And Resources"

The Network of International Business Schools (NIBS) is a group of business schools from around the world which believe that the internationalization of business and the globalization of the economy are essential elements in the evolution of managerial practices.

NIBS members believe that higher education and training must integrate a strong international dimension, including the practice of foreign languages, the study of comparative management techniques and the experience of working and studying abroad.

They also believe that cooperation between educational institutions in different countries contributes to a better understanding between nations by furthering awareness and knowledge of other cultures and social practices.

Members of NIBS recognize each others' qualifications, have a common goal of collaboration, and encourage participation in the following:

  • Student exchanges/interactions
  • Faculty exchanges/interactions
  • Exchanges of ideas for teaching programs
  • Joint teaching and research programs

Membership in NIBS entitles an institution to participate case competitions and conferences. "Furthering Education By Uniting Business Schools Around The World Through Shared Ideals And Resources"

NIBS and BISHOP’S University

Bishop’s University finance professor Steve Barlow was on the initial planning committee for the creation of the network of International Business Schools in early nineties. The main raison d’être for the association is documented in the nibsnet.org site. Currently there are over 65 members of the network worldwide.

The NIBS case competition began in 1996, with the first competition hosted by ESCA University in Rennes, France. The host of each successive NIBS case competition was traditionally the winner of the previous year’s competition. Bishop’s has competed successfully in the preliminary rounds of each of the NIBS competitions since its inception. This preliminary round is a written case analysis, submitted to the host university, which chooses the best 7 entrants (the host university receives a bye into the final round) to compete in the week long case competition.

Bishop’s has sent teams and their coaches to competitions hosted from St. John’s to Auckland, New Zealand, have won the competition 4 times and have placed second on three different occasions.  The BU team won the 2007 Competition hosted by DIT, Dublin and the 2006 competition hosted by BI University in Oslo, Norway; BU also won at the Auckland university of Technology in New Zealand in  2002 and the 1999 competition hosted by Bishop’s themselves. Bishop’s also hosted the competition 2003.
