MEET SOME OF OUR STUDENTS

Alsu Kurbanova

Alsu Kurbanova, BBA - Finance, Minor - Economics
Kazan, Russia

Alsu has been an active member of SIFE*Bishop's since her first semester at Bishop’s and is currently acting as VP of Finance and Fundraising. She is also a recipient of the B.E.S.T. project fund and is working on implementing a Language Tandem Program at Bishop's where students can learn a foreign language at their desired pace. Additionally, Alsu is also a member of the SEED portfolio where she manages investments in the Healthcare/Biotechnology and Information Technology sectors. “SEED provides me with hands-on experience that I would otherwise only obtain after graduation." Alsu believes that Bishop’s is more than just a place to earn a degree, it's a place to gain knowledge and build long-term friendships.

Catherine Bélanger Pâquet

Catherine Bélanger Pâquet, BBA - Finance, Minor - Economics
Quebec City, Quebec, Canada

Already a star player on the Gaiters Women's Basketball team, Catherine is also an outstanding student having been awarded the WSB Athlete of the Year. Catherine, also a coop student, believes that the Bishop’s school spirit allows every student to feel as though they are part of one big family, where everyone is willing to help one another. The sense of community extends to the professors too. "Our profs are amazing! They take the time to get to know you and are also very accommodating and understanding." She believes that Bishop’s is the best place to balance quality education, social activities and for getting to know yourself.

Nigel Van Dalen

Nigel Van Dalen, BBA – Accounting and Entrepreneurship
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Nigel is currently Co-President of SIFE*Bishops, a national association for the advancement of Canadian entrepreneurship. His focus is on client relations, managing the team’s projects, and acting as the figurehead for the organization. Nigel is grateful for the opportunity to develop his leadership qualities while experiencing real-life client consulting. Enrolled in the Bishop’s exchange program, Nigel spent a semester at the Jönköping International Business School in Sweden where he has gained international experience, from both a business and a cultural perspective. Nigel is also involved with recruitment here at Bishop’s, is a member of Golden Key, was appointed to the WSB Dean’s List, and participated as a Frosh leader.

Gauri Suri

Gauri Suri, BBA - Accounting
New Delhi, India

Gauri has become highly involved with the Accounting (CA) Club. In fact, after her first year as a member she was appointed the club secretary. In this role, Gauri helps raise awareness about the club on campus and takes part in organising fundraising activities. In addition to providing information sessions for accounting students, the CA club invites various accounting firms and recruiters to campus. Gauri is also part of the women's fitness group that meets weekly for high-impact cardio fitness. As an international student, Gauri realizes that the many opportunities offered at Bishop’s as well as within the WSB have not only helped her find her place within the community, they have allowed her to make many friends along the way.

Sandra Cinq-Mars

Sandra Cinq-Mars, BBA - Finance, Minor - Hispanic Studies
Quebec City, Quebec, Canada

Sandra is Co-President of SIFE*Bishop’s, a national association for the advancement of Canadian entrepreneurship. She coordinates several projects and plans meetings with the SIFE teams to ensure that projects are completed on time while keeping all stakeholders continually informed. Being part of SIFE provides Sandra with an opportunity to improve her leadership, teamwork, and time management skills while giving back to the community. She appreciates how the WSB courses are designed to help students to not only gain knowledge on different topics related to business, but also offer opportunities to apply this knowledge in real-life contexts.

Alex Gagnon Sckoropad

Alex Gagnon Sckoropad, BBA –Entrepreneurship and Marketing Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada

During the 2010 winter semester Alex completed ‘New Venture Creation’, a class offered within our Entrepreneurship concentration, and proceeded to win the P.H Scowen Memorial Prize in Entrepreneurship, an award given to the best idea and business plan at Bishop’s University. This victory lead Alex to launch his own business called MasterGatePlus Inc. While working in parallel with our Dobson-Lagasse Entrepreneurship Centre, Alex recognizes that studying in Entrepreneurship has brought him a different skill set and enabled him to discover his passion for business start-ups. Currently juggling a full-time student/new venture entrepreneur status within the Williams School of Business, Alex feels he has benefitted from experienced teachers and mentors.
