Dr. Calin Valsan
Acting Dean, Williams School of Business
Dr. Valsan is a Professor of Finance in the Williams School of Business at Bishop’s University. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Bucharest and his Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He teaches Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, Capital Budgeting, Capital Markets and International Finance. During his academic career, Dr. Valsan held various research and teaching appointments at the Academy for Economic Studies in Bucharest, Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, York University in Toronto, Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, and University of New Brunswick in Saint John. Before earning his doctoral degree, he worked as a senior manager in charge of financial planning and operations.
Currently, Dr. Valsan researches corporate governance and agent-based simulations in finance. Dr. Valsan’s past research interests dealt with capital structure theory and its applications to economies in transition. He also studied the economics of art auctions, comparing auction results in Canada and the United States.

Dr. Lourdes Zubieta
Chair
Dr. Zubieta is Full Professor in the Williams School of Business, where she has taught since 1988. She earned a BSc in Mathematics at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and received her MSc and PhD degrees in Operations Research from Université de Montréal. Her research interests are related to health care systems using mathematical models and computer simulation.

Dr. Hafid Agourram
Dr. Agourram earned his DBA at Université de Sherbrooke. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences and Mathematics from Rhode Island College (USA) in 1989, a Master's degree in Software Engineering from National University (USA) in 1990, and a Master's degree in Management Development from the EuroArab Management School (Spain) in 1995. Before joining Bishop's University in July 2001, Dr. Agourram taught at McGill University, École des Hautes Études Commerciales de Montréal, and Université du Québec à Montréal. Dr. Agourram has also worked in business organizations for nine years, including five years as the dean of a private business school, two years as human resources director, and two years as a software engineer. Dr. Agourram is a regular member of the Groupe de recherche en Geobusiness de l'Université de Sherbrooke.

Dr. Akanksha Bedi
Assistant Professor
Akanksha Bedi is an Assistant Professor of Human Resources at the Williams School of Business. She received her Ph.D. in Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources from McMaster University. She also holds a Masters in Economics from Simon Fraser University and a Masters in Commerce from Delhi University. Her research investigates the causes and effects of dysfunctional work behaviours. Current research projects include investigations of customer incivility and customer directed revenge behaviours, plagiarism in academic research, organizational politics, and work related stress and emotions.

Prof. Sylvie Béquet
Sylvie Béquet earned her D.E.S.C.A.F. (Diplôme d'Études Supérieures Comptables, Administratives et Financières) at l'École Supérieure de Commerce et d'Administration des Entreprises, membre du réseau des Grandes Écoles françaises, France), as well as receiving her M.Sc. in Finance at Université de Sherbrooke.

Dr. Denise Fortier
Associate Professor of Management
An Assistant Professor in Management at the Williams School of Business, Denise Fortier earned her DBA at the Université de Sherbrooke, where she developed a Multicultural Managerial Competence typology, a research project for which she was awarded a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada's Doctoral Fellowship grant. After completing her MA degree in Communication at California State University, Northridge, she taught various BBA, MBA, and Executive MBA classes, and began doing consulting in interpersonal and teamwork skills along with leadership and motivation. Her research interests now center on the competencies required for the management of a multicultural workforce, both at home and abroad as well as within virtual teams.

Dr. Paul Gallina
Dr. Gallina is a Professor in Human Resources and primarily teaches the following courses required for the Certified Human Resources Professional designation: occupational health, safety, and wellness; employment law; and, industrial relations. He also teaches professional and business ethics that is cross-listed in philosophy. In each of these subjects he is an active researcher and an external consultant.
Among his academic achievements are as follows: a Master of Laws (with Distinction) in law and employment relations from the Graduate Faculty of Law, University of Leicester; a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Guelph; a Diploma in Occupational Health from McMaster; and, a Diploma in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier.
Prior to coming to Bishop’s Dr. Gallina worked for fifteen years with the Ontario Ministry of Labour. At the MOL he helped implement the reforms to workers’ compensation, and to occupational health in general, recommended by Paul Weiler in Protecting the worker from disability: challenges for the eighties (1983). He held senior operational positions in research, policy analysis, and as a management consultant in client services. In the latter capacity he advised at some 400 workplaces, represented clients at some 300 appeals, and participated in a variety of public education initiatives.

Prof. Mark Gandey
Mark Gandey (B.U. finance, 1989) worked as an accountant for 17 years (Gillette, Air Montreal and Stikeman Elliott) while first earning a C.M.A (Concordia), a M.B.A. (U.Q.O.) followed by a graduate diploma in Instructional Technology (Concordia) prior to lecturing at the Williams School of Business in Managerial Accounting.

Dr. Albert James
Albert James is an Assistant Professor for the Williams School of Business in the field of Entrepreneurship. He received his PhD from the department of Strategic Management and Organization at the University of Alberta. Albert comes to us after a long career working in and managing small and medium sized entrepreneurial and family owned firms. From his work experience and educational background Albert is a passionate teacher and researcher in the fields of entrepreneurship and family business. Albert has published book chapters in both fields as well as academic journal articles in The Family Business Review and Family Relations.

Dr. Kimin Kim
Dr. Kimin Kim received his BBA (1989) and MBA (1991) from Kyung Hee University (Seoul, Korea) and his PhD in Strategy and Organization from the Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University (2011). Before joining academia, he worked in the telecommunications industry for twelve years as a management consultant. His research interests include strategic implications of inter-organizational relations and theories of social networks, social capital, and innovation. Currently, Dr. Kim teaches in the area of General Business Management and Human Resources Management.

Dr. Kyung Young Lee
Dr. Kyung Young Lee is Assistant Professor at the Williams School of Business. He received his Bachelor's degree in Radio Telecommunication Engineering and MBA from Yonsei University (South Korea), earned another MBA from the University of Ottawa, and received his PhD in Management Information Systems from the Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University (2012). Before joining Bishop's he worked in the telecommunication industry as a project manager and a knowledge management officer. His research interests include knowledge management in knowledge teams, online communities, online word-of-mouth (product reviews), and IT innovation. Currently he teaches in the area of Management Science and Information Systems.

Prof. Camille Lessard
Camille Lessard is Associate Professor in the Accounting concentration of the Williams School of Business. She earned her chartered accountancy (CA) designation in 1989 and her MA in Taxation in 1995 from the Université de Sherbrooke. After having worked in the private sector as a CA and tax specialist since 1987, she embraced an educational career in 1998, teaching part time at the Université de Sherbrooke and at Bishop's University since then. While being continuously involved in publications in the field of Canadian taxation, she has strong interests in innovative pedagogy. She is currently working on the development of a competency-based curriculum for the accounting concentration at BU. She teaches accounting and tax courses.

Dr. Paul Leventhal
Dr. Leventhal is a Professor of Finance at the Williams School of Business. His areas of interest include bank financial management, retail banking especially in the U.S., and mutual fund distribution. He is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charterholder.

Dr. Robert Palmer
Dr. Robert Palmer is Assistant Professor in the Williams School of Business. He received his bachelor's degree in Leisure Studies (1998) and his master's degree in Human Kinetics - Sports Administration (1999) from the University of Ottawa and his PhD in Recreation and Tourism from Michigan State University (2003). His research interests include tourism, consumer behaviour, and marketing. In addition to his collaboration with Dr. Susan Reid, Dr. Palmer works with Dr. Ed Mahoney from Michigan State University on boating and marinas, agriculture and natural resources products tourism.

Dr. Susan Reid
Dr. Reid is an Associate Professor in the Williams School of Business. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology at Queen’s University in 1986, her MBA in International Marketing at McGill in 1991 and her PhD in Marketing at Concordia University in 2005. Her research interests include market vision for radical innovations, new product development, networks and diffusion of technologies, nanotechnology, biotechnology and marketplace acceptance of radical innovations. Dr. Reid currently holds a grant with SSHRC for studying the antecedents and impact of market vision along with co-investigator Dr. Ulrike de Brentani. Dr. Reid is also a member of an FQRSC-funded team, the Groupe de recherche sur l’internationalisation de la biotechnologie, which includes Dr. Jorge Niosi (UQAM, Canada Research Chair in Technology Management), and Dr. Petr Hanel (Université de Sherbrooke). She is also collaborating with Dr. Shyama Ramani (UNU-Merit), Dr. Deborah Roberts (Nottingham University), Dr. Karl Moore (McGill University), and Dr. Mugrank Thakor (Concordia University).

Dr. Cranmer Rutihinda
Dr. Rutihinda has been a member of the Williams School of Business since 2004. He received his M.Sc (Economics) in 1987 from the Karl Marx Economics Institute in Bulgaria and Ph.D. (Economics) in 1996 from Stockholm University. He served as a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at the Albany State University from 2002 to 2004, after having worked as consultant, lecturer and university administrator in Tanzania, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Belgium. He teaches courses in international business and international marketing.

Prof. Caroline Talbot
Caroline Talbot is a lecturer for the Williams School of Business in the Accounting concentration. Prior to her arrival at Bishop’s, she worked for 4 years as an external auditor and 9 years as the Director of Finance and Human Resources in a retail business. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Business (Accounting concentration) from Bishop’s in 1998 and a Graduate Diploma in Accountancy from Université de Sherbrooke in 2000. She completed her Master of Accountancy from the Université de Sherbrooke in 2010 and earned her C.A. designation in 2000. Her main domains of interest are financial accounting, governance issues and auditing.

Dr. Arshad Taseen
Arshad Taseen is a professor in the Williams School of Business. He received his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Bangalore University (India), MBA from University of Ottawa and PhD from Ivey Business School (University of Western Ontario). Before joining Bishop's he worked in Aerosol Industry and often provides consulting service in this area. His research interest is in scheduling and forecasting techniques. Currently he teaches in the area of Management Science and Information Systems.

Prof. Mike Teed
Mike Teed is a lecturer for the Williams School of Business in the field of Human Resources. He received his M.Sc. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Saint Mary’s University. He is also currently in the process of completing his Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the same institution. He is extremely passionate about teaching and has also garnered experience as a Human Resource consultant in a variety of public and private organizations. His research interests include workplace aggression and violence, occupational stress, and leadership.

Prof. Yanan Wang
Yanan Wang is a full-time lecturer at the Williams School of Business in the field of Marketing. She received her Bachelor degree in Industrial Economics from Renmin University of China, Beijing and earned her MPhil in Marketing from Lingnan University, Hong Kong. She is currently in the process of completing her PhD in Marketing from the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University. Her research interest is consumer psychology, specifically mortality salience, loss management and gift giving under the context of consumption. Prof. Wang teaches in the areas of marketing management and consumer behaviour.

Steven Karpenko
Steven Karpenko is a Lecturer in the Williams School of Business specializing in entrepreneurship and small business development. He has worked with hundreds of companies through his own consulting practice, as a business owner and with the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC). His current focus is on developing solutions for the small enterprise that minimize risk through the critical five-year growth period. Steve will begin doctoral research in the fall of 2011 focusing on the social capital of immigrant entrepreneurs and globalization of the small business. Steve is a Bishop's University graduate (BBA), an MBA from York University and carries the CMC designation.

Ramesh Mehta
Professor Mehta earned his Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of Bombay, India. He holds his MBA from Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia and also has a CPA, CGA professional accounting designation.
Professor Mehta teaches part-time various accounting and business courses in the Accounting and Management Technology Program at Champlain Regional College. In addition to his teaching experience, he worked for several years at Capitol Records of Canada Ltd. as a Financial Analyst and at Ronson Products of Canada Ltd. as an Accounts Assistant in Toronto. Professor Mehta has also worked in Mumbai, India in the accounting field.

Carleton Monk
Carleton Monk graduated from the University of Sherbrooke Law School in 1983 and has been a member of the Quebec Bar since1984. He has a small general Law Practice in the Eastern Townships and has been teaching law courses at Bishop's in the Williams School of Business 1995. Courses that he is currently teaching include Business Law, Private International Law and Public International Law.

Prof. William J. Robson
Bill Robson is a Full Professor in the Williams School of Business, specializing in Change Management, Strategy and Innovation. He has a bachelor of commerce from the University of Guelph and an MBA from McMaster University. In addition to his teaching and research, , he has also been the head coach of the Bishop's Men's Rugby Football Club since his arrival at Bishop's in 1983.
