Description

This fund was created by Dian Cohen DCL ’10 for the purpose of supporting experiential learning or other extra-curricular opportunities for students in the Williams School of Business.  Each year the fund holds a competition to achieve this purpose.

Competition

Students can apply for up to $1,000.00 in funding to defray non-salary expenses associated with pursuing a defined extracurricular development activity.  This activity must be demonstrated to enhance the student’s business education at the WSB (e.g., professional conference; workshop; education programs; non-remunerated internships; business-related volunteer work for community organizations). Amounts will be awarded on a competitive basis.  Costs are typically those related to travel, registration, accommodation and other similar enabling expenses.  The activity can take place at any time during the year as long as the awardee is a full time current or returning student.

Criteria

  • Student must be enrolled full time with a minimum 70% average.
  • The project must be described, and detailed according to the application form. 
  • Students must use the award before they graduate.
  • Two to three awards  are given annually , pending available funds.
  • The project must be judged by the committee to be a quality learning opportunity.
  • An email from a faculty member endorsing your project.

Adjudication

Completed applications must be submitted online by May 1st, 2013.  Endorsement letters from faculty members should be submitted to marilyn.turner@ubishops.ca by the aforementioned deadline. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed by the committee. The adjudication committee will comprise the WSB Chair, BUCS President and one Faculty member appointed by the Dean.
