Finance Concentration Stream

The finance curriculum is designed to provide students with broad exposure to all dimensions of the finance function. Students will learn professional skills and acquire technical and analytical competence to pursue challenging careers in corporate finance, banking, portfolio management, securities research and financial planning.

In addition to a thorough understanding of the principles of financial management, students will be exposed to both theoretical and practical aspects of investment management, capital budgeting capital formation, and risk hedging. Opportunities to explore current topics and apply practical solutions to current theory are also provided. Students, by following a prescribed set of courses, are qualified to write the first level C.F.A. (Chartered Financial Analyst) exams immediately upon graduation.

As well, students in their final year can compete for positions as portfolio managers managing actual funds in the SEED Portfolio.
To complete a B.B.A. with a Finance Concentration students are required to complete the following courses:  The following program requirements are specific to students entering in the Fall 2011 semester.  Students who entered the WSB prior to the Fall 2011 should follow the academic calendar requirements in place in the year they started their studies OR click on the Changes in BBA/BA Major Business program link.

  • 42 credits of required Business Core courses which are composed of ECO102, ECO103, BMA140, BMA141, BAC121, BAC221, BFN200, BCS220, BHR221, BMG112, BMG215, BMG311, BMK211, BMS231
  • ILT100, a 1 credit information literacy and critical thinking lab course, is required for all business students.
  • 24 credits of Finance Concentration Stream courses as listed below.
  • 6 credits of free electives within or outside of Business
  • 18 credits of free electives outside of business for 90 credit B.B.A. students OR 48 credits of free electives outside of business for 120 credit B.B.A. students (18 credits of which may be business courses).
