Where can I do my work terms?
Anywhere, the choice is yours! Most of our job offers are located in the following cities: Sherbrooke, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver, but students are welcome to explore other possibilities. The Co-op Office will support you in your job search and use its networks to help you get placed!
How many work terms do I have to complete?
- 90 credit students: 2 work terms that are between 12 and 16 weeks in length
- 120 credit students: 3 work terms that are between 12 and 16 weeks in length
Can I do an international work term?
Most certainly! Our co-op students have done work terms in a variety of countries other than Canada. Students interested in doing an international work term should speak with the Coordinator as soon as being accepted into the program to start the process.
Can I be in co-op and still go on exchange?
Yes; however, it does take a great deal of commitment on your part. Being away on exchange and engaging in the job search process can be challenging, but very possible if you are willing to put in the effort. The Co-op Office will be there to support you in every way possible.
As an international student, am I eligible for co-op?
Yes! International students that are interested in co-op should consult the “Current Co-op Students” section of the website regarding eligibility and step by step instructions.
How is my work term evaluated?
The work term is evaluated on the following 3 criteria:
- Successfully completing your work term within the organization
- Completing a satisfactory work term report
- Receiving a satisfactory performance evaluation from the supervisor
The work term report will be reviewed by the Coordinator and a recommendation will be made to the Departmental Chair regarding the final grade (pass or fail). The Departmental Chair will make the final grading and submit the mark.
How much does it cost to be in co-op?
Work placements are considered as a 3 credit course. Please click here in order to view the latest tuition rates as well as important payment deadlines.
What is my co-op fee used for?
The co-operative education fee of $200 is payable by cheque at the beginning of the winter semester. This fee covers the following services that are provided:
- Customized workshops for co-op students
- Individual advising and coaching in the job search process
- Resume assessments
- Interview preparation
- Follow-up and visitation
- Work term evaluations
How much are co-op students paid?
The salaries received by co-op students are greatly dependent on market conditions, the location and nature of the placement and the student’s experience level. Co-op students can typically expect to get paid between $13 and $20 per hour.
