CHANGES IN BBA/BA MAJOR BUSINESS PROGRAM
For the 2011-2012 Academic Calendar the Williams School of Business has made several changes to the program requirements for the BBA and BA Major business degrees. All students entering a business program in the Fall 2011 as new students will follow these new requirements. Business students already enrolled in a BBA or BA Major Business program prior to the Fall 2011 may continue to follow the calendar requirements in force at the time they entered the program. However students do have the option to switch to the new program requirements under certain conditions. Items 1, 2 and 3 lists the changes that have been made. Item 4 gives guidance to those students wishing to switch to the new program. For those students who wish to switch to the new program requirements it is important that you speak to an academic advisor or the Chair of the Department in order to formally make the change and to complete a change of program form.
- The Required Core is now made up of 42 credits
- BFN201(Finance 1) has been dropped from the required core and replaced with BFN200 (Introduction to Finance)
- BFN203 (Formerly Finance II and now called Corporate Finance) has been dropped from the required core and is now a required course in the Finance Concentration.
- BCS 220 (Management Information Systems) has been added to the required core.
- BMK214 (Consumer Behaviour) has been dropped from the required core and is now a required course in the Marketing Concentration.
- All concentration streams in the BBA program are now 30 credits and are made up of required courses, courses selected from a defined list and electives (either non-business or business courses from the same area of concentration or a different area).
- For students in the BA Major Business program, you are now required to complete 18 credits of Business electives.
- For those students who wish to switch to the new program:
- Those students who have not taken BFN201 should follow the new program. See Chart A. If you are in a BBA program, your concentration area will now be increased to 30 credits. If you are a BA Major Business student your Business free electives will now increase to 18 credits.
- If you have already taken BFN201 you may continue with the old program. See Chart B. Alternately, you may switch to the new program (Chart A), however, your concentration area will now be increased to 30 credits if you are in a BBA program, and if you are in a BA Major Business program, your business free electives increase to 18 credits.
