Gaiters’ Jamall Lee set to play in American All-Star game
LENNOXVILLE - January 28, 2009
Bishop’s Gaiters running back Jamall Lee (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) is set to play in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Challenge this Saturday afternoon. The game, which is in its third year, is one of four post-season major collegiate all-star games in the U.S. Lee is the first player from a CIS school to play in the game, which matches a team of players originally from or currently playing in Texas against a team of players from around the U.S.
Lee, a six-foot-one, 225-pound fourth-year running back, is a two-time First Team All-Canadian, and is the Quebec University Football League’s all-time leading rusher, with 4,296 yards in four seasons. He is a two-time CIS rushing champion, having finished 2008 with 1,202 rushing yards, averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Lee is No. 2 on the CFL Amateur Scouting Bureau’s latest rankings of CIS-based draft prospects, and won the 2007 Jeff Russel Trophy as the QUFL's Most Outstanding Player.
Lee is the second Gaiter to participate in a U.S. college all-star game, following current Gaiters Head Coach Leroy Blugh, who played in the 1989 East-West Shrine Game.
Lee is one of four running backs named to the Nation team, which will be coached by Howard Schnellenberger. Schnellenberger won a National Championship with the Miami Hurricanes in 1983, and has been a collegiate coach for more than 40 years. He is currently the head coach at Florida Atlantic University.
The Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Challenge has had 30 NFL draftees in its first two years, and sent a total of 181 players to the NFL. The game will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. MST (3 p.m. EST), at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas. The game will be televised on CBS College Sports in the U.S., with a live audio broadcast available at texasvsthenation.cstv.com .
