2016-17 SEASON OF DONALD LECTURE SERIES WILL FEATURE DOWD, LINDHOUT, SINCLAIR, HENEIN

Bishop’s University is proud to announce the 2016-17 season of the Donald Lecture Series. Maureen Dowd, Amanda Lindhout, Senator Murray Sinclair and Marie Henein, this year’s headliners and social commentators, promise to keep the Bishop’s community engaged as ever by addressing some of the most compelling topics of our time.

The series will kick off on Thursday, October 20, with Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd in conversation with Carl Hulse. Ms. Dowd will share her wry humour and acerbic insights into the most controversial presidential race in modern history, just a few weeks before the American election. Chief Washington Correspondent of the New York Times Carl Hulse will lead the conversation.

On Wednesday, November 16, Amanda Lindhout will tell the searingly intimate story of her search for compassion in the face of unimaginable adversity. A captivating, unforgettable speaker, Ms. Lindhout alights on the positive and leaves the audience with a fuller understanding of the freedom we can all experience when we choose to embrace compassion. What emerges is a celebration of resilience — a powerful portrait of the strength of the human spirit.

On Wednesday, January 18, 2017, Senator Murray Sinclair will speak about his 25 year experience in the justice system in Manitoba and his role as Chief Commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Finally, on Friday, February 10, 2017, Marie Henein will share her experiences as a defense lawyer in Canada. Ms. Henein has been repeatedly recognized as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers by Canadian Lawyer Magazine and was the 2013 recipient of the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Laura Legge Award.

Into its 9th season, the Donald Lecture Series brings speakers of national and international renown to the Bishop’s campus to provide insight, provoke thought, and stimulate debate on the most compelling issues and events in the world today.

The series is made possible thanks to the generous support of Bishop’s alumnus John Donald ’60, DCL ’12. All lectures are free of charge and open to the public. For more information on the series, including speaker biographies and lecture descriptions, visit the Donald Lecture Series website.
